Ronel Terblanche, the owner and senior partner of Cape Moondance – has been using pure buchu leaf for the past 25 years. In her never ending search for quality buchu as well as the time it took to brew and strain the leaves, she conceived the idea to produce the first 100% pure buchu teabags in South Africa and probably the world.
Her biggest concern was that the product had to be of the finest quality. That is why only the best Agathosma betulina is sourced to pack into the individual teabags. Today customers are offered a premium quality product.
The Khoisan, believed to be the first inhabitants of Southern Africa, trusted buchu to cure various illnesses and to aid longevity. They also attached special significance to the moon. On new and full moon nights they drank buchu while performing rainmaking rites and traditional dances. These Khoisan traditions inspired the name Cape Moondance. The Cape Moondance packaging was designed to reflect the vibrant colours and subtle nuances of the South African soil.
Buchu (Agathosma Betulina) grows naturally in virgin soil and without the aid of pesticides. It is endemic to South Africa and grows in the mountainous areas of the Southwestern Cape.
The buchu is harvested from the wild by hand. It is dried and shredded, steam treated and packed in tea bags. The tea bags are sealed in a foil pouch to maintain freshness. Cape Moondance 100% pure buchu teabags contain no colorants, chemicals, additives or preservatives.
