Not just a pretty colour

Love My Hair is a South African company that’s passionate about natural hair colour and firmly believes that all women should be able to dye their hair gently and effectively without using chemicals.

Love My Hair has two ranges, the 100% Herbal and the Ultra Low Chemical dyes.

Both ranges are approved by Beauty Without Cruelty, which means neither the ingredients nor the final products have been tested on animals, and are completely vegan.

All the herbal ingredients are grown organically. Love My Hair has the certification from the supplier that this is the case, however because they are not certified by an international organization like Ecocert,  according to the Cosmetics Federation of South Africa, Love My Hair is not able to advertise them as organic.

Both ranges contain herbs that have been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine. These herbs are used to improve the condition of the hair and scalp, encouraging hair growth and eliminating itchiness and dandruff problems.

The herbs are also good for the body as a whole and as they’re absorbed through the scalp they are not just colouring hair but are also benefitting the body. Click here for more information about each of the herbs.

100% Herbal

  • Contains no chemicals.
  • Permanent dye.
  • Will not lighten hair.
  • Contains henna, indigo, amla, shikakai, brahmi, bahera, harad and bhringraj.
  • Henna and indigo are the two plant ingredients that dye the hair.
  • It’s the perfect dye for people who are sensitive to the chemicals in hair dye.
  • It does cover grey hair, but some people need to do several applications over a short period of time for complete coverage. Other people have complete coverage with one application. It depends on the hair type.
  • Application time is 1-2 hours.
  • It works best for people who are not grey yet, and those who have a small percentage of grey.
  • The best colours for covering grey are flame red, wine red and dark brown.

Ultra Low Chemical

  • Contains very low concentrations of chemicals. When the powder is correctly diluted with water, all the chemical ingredients comprise only 2% of the total. To put this in perspective, in a comparative natural hair dye just the PPD comprises from between 0.8% to 2.1%. This excludes the other chemical ingredients.  Current EU legislation allows for PPD to comprise up to 6% of the constituents of dye.
  • Contains henna, PPD (para-phenylenediamine)*, barium peroxide, para amino phenol, rose petal powder, amla, bhringraj, shikakai, citric acid, sodium laurel sulphate and sodium sulphate.
  • Does not contain any ammonia or resorcinol.
  • Permanent dye.
  • It covers grey completely with one application.
  • Will not lighten hair.
  • Application time is 30-50 minutes.
  • It’s the perfect dye for people who are not allergic to the chemicals in hair dye, but who nevertheless want to reduce their exposure to these chemicals.
  • It also offers the most reliable coverage for people who are completely grey.

*A note about PPD: Para-phenylenediamine (PPD)  is the chemical in hair dye that is potentially the most damaging to our health and the chemical that is most widely known about. However, it is also the most effective chemical ingredient for covering grey. It does not build up in the body but repeated exposure to it can lead to sensitivity, with a small percentage of people developing allergic reactions. This is why it is essential for people to do a skin patch test before using any products containing PPD

100% Herbal Range: 6 warm shades from Flame Red, Wine Red through Light Auburn, Light & Dark Browns to Soft Black.
